In order to make the process as simple as possible, here is some useful information for funeral directors, as well as loved ones, to prepare for an interment at Loving Earth Memorial Gardens:

  • All graves will be hand-dug by the sexton immediately upon notification of need, even during winter months.

  • The grave-digging process takes approx. 6-12 hours, depending upon weather conditions.

  • Graves will be fully prepared and dressed well in advance of the family’s and loved ones’ arrival.

  • The deceased will be carried from hearse to gravesite either by 4-6 friends and loved ones, by cart or by wooden sled.

  • The deceased will be placed atop three boards crossing the grave and lowered by hand using hemp ropes.

  • Loved ones will be offered the opportunity to help close the grave. Shovels will be provided.

  • For burial to be permitted, the deceased cannot be embalmed.

  • Burial containers must be 100% biodegradable, with the only exceptions being the hardware (screws, nails, etc.) used in its construction.

  • Since no headstones are permitted at Loving Earth, we will offer loved ones of the deceased a field stone, which can be decorated however they see fit and used as a grave marker.

  • Loved ones can choose to have a tree, shrub or perennial wildflower placed atop their loved one’s grave the spring following burial.
